The
Oomph! Coffee name was originally used for one of our blends.
Carlos, our RoastMaster, was looking for a name to describe
a full flavored blend and Oomph! was the name that came up.
The name Oomph! has stuck, and is now the name of our Coffee
Roasting business situated in Tasmania. We now send our coffee
to all states when required.
The name is very easy to remember and has become a name known
for exceptionally high quality specialty coffee, and for intense
training structures to help coffee serving premises become
espresso industry leaders in their own particular location.
Small beginnings
In 2000, Carlos & Nikki Kindred began roasting at a small
retail outlet in Victoria. Foundational Barista training was
provided by an Australian and World Champion Barista. Carlos
used the fluid bed system at the time, and graduated to traditional
drum roasting as he found it produced a fuller, longer lasting
flavor and he had far greater control over the roast profiles
including airflow, burner control, and time and temperature
profiling.
After consulting with some of the most experienced and knowledgeable
roasters in the world, Carlos & Nikki decided to have
a brand new Probat Roaster hand-built at the factory in Emmerich,
Germany.
The roaster was imported into Tasmania in 2003, and the education
and hard work of truly focusing on becoming an 'artisan roaster'
began.
Many, many roasts were thrown out & the Kindred family
struggled to survive in a small and low-price economy population.
But, never compromising on quality, and living up to their
own standards of putting quality first, Carlos & Nikki
forged ahead.

Oomph! Coffee Multi-Award winning Master-Roaster, Carlos Kindred, at the cupping table. Evaluating coffees is an ongoing and integral part of insuring consistent cup quality to our cherished customers.
At
last, Carlos won a Bronze medal in Australia's toughest coffee
competitions in Sydney, under some of the most discerning,
and strict judging possible.
Champion baristas, professional cupping analysts, and long
time coffee judges evaluated Oomph! Coffee, and one of our
Oomph! Blends came third in Australia for it's class.
The next year saw an even greater reward with an Oomph! Coffee
blend being awarded the only Silver Medal in it's Class and
coming Second in Australia. In each class, significant placings
showed Oomph! to place higher than Crivelli, Coffex, and MIO
on some of their blends for 2005.
Accolades
galore!!!
Recently,
Oomph! Coffee became one of the most highly awarded Coffee
Roasters in Australia.
Awarded
2 Silver medals, and 3 Bronze medals at the 2006 Royal Sydney
fine foods show. Oomph! Coffee has quickly become known as
a genuine 'artisan' roaster of the highest calibre.
Unique
roasting profiles, consistency, extreme bean quality, and
strict regular cupping analysis is what sets Oomph! Coffee
apart.
It would seem that Oomph! Coffee is assured a place within
the Specialty Coffee Industry as a respected, genuine premium
coffee roaster.
NEW ROASTER
Always striving to do the best we can on behalf of our store operators, and wholesale customers, Oomph! Coffee imports a new roaster. Our new roaster has a roasting capacity of over 10,000 kilograms per week if we need to fill large orders, or engage in contract roasting for larger firms. Our roasting equipment includes a destoning plant to ensure that absolutely no impurities end up in the finished product. The new roasting plant is not only able to be manually operated for the true 'artisan' roasting touch under differing conditions, but is also fully computer programmable to give consistency and computer controlled accuracy for our unique roasting profiles.
Extreme
Beans
Still having to compete with mass-produced and even imported
coffees from Interstate and overseas, Oomph! Coffee continues
to show no mercy when it comes to quality. The very best of
estates were searched World-Wide with the help of our cupping
analyst, and green bean broker. Hand-picked, sun-dried, gourmet
quality arabica beans from the best of specialty estates have
become the norm for Oomph! Coffee blends.
We dont use second
rate. Ever.

A new outlet has opened in Hobart City to keep a finger on
the pulse and to monitor changing customer needs and fluctuations.
The outlet lays the working model and foundation for all Oomph!
Coffee quality control systems. This store acts as a working
model to reinforce the Oomph! System franchise.
Four Oomph! Coffee stores will be operating in Tasmania as
a franchise model in 2007.
Coffee appreciation and training has always played a major
role at Oomph! and courses are intense and unique. We train well beyond WBC standards, are members of the Australian Coffee Traders Association, and for
the willing Barista, we can take you to National competition
level. See TRAINING
