Frequently asked questions:-
Generally asked ?'s
Can I use your coffee in my cafe?
Yes. We are wholesale roasters, and we specialize in getting sites set up to operate at a premium, and to increase coffee sales in any given area. This is done through the Oomph! Coffee System training course, using the right type of espresso equipment that is calibrated correctly, the Oomph! System menu, and promotional work. It's all about quality, and the right amount of effort in the right areas. Our system is extremely successful. We contract roast your own brand label after consultation if you wish. However, if you are not first about premium quality, and making sure that only dedicated and well trained staff are making the coffee on a consistent basis, then we are not the roasting company for you.
Can I buy your coffee in my state?
We can send our coffee to any state direct to your home, or for retail operations, directly to your shop. We send the day after roasting to ensure perfect freshness, and are setting up distributors in each state to perfect the process for wholesale/retail operations. Large amounts or small. No problems. If you would like to have an opportunity to own your own Oomph! Coffee shop, please contact us about our new franchise packages.
Is your coffee, 'specialty coffee?'fee 'specialty coffee' ?
Our coffee is genuine Specialty coffee. We are fully Fairtrade Certified, and use many NASA Certified Organic coffees. There are a lot of so called 'specialty roasters' who are not specialty at all. Amazingly, some of the worst offenders belong to 'Specialty Organisations' !!!
True specialty coffee is actually a grade of coffee. Only a certain minimal percentage of 'nipped' or faulty beans are allowed through the process to allow a coffee to be graded as 'specialty'. The percentage is 1%. Even if someone is a member of a specialty association does not mean that the coffee they present is 'specialty grade.' All our coffees are genuine 'Specialty Grade' coffees. Most are Hand-Picked, Sun-Dried, Shade Grown, Bird Friendly, RainForest Alliance, Organic, and/or FairTrade. We call our coffee, "Global Care Coffee".
Do you have barista training?
Yes, we have an intense training system called, "The Oomph! Coffee System" See training.
Can I buy home espresso equipment from you?
Yes, we offer several excellent, well tested machine and grinder packages for the home barista, and we offer superb commercial machine and grinder packages.
What should my pour time be for good espresso?
That is something you should experiment with, but as a general time parameter, 26-28seconds ( from pushing the button) for a 60 ml double shot is a very good starting point.
Should the puck be soft or hard?
You should aim for a shot that is extracting well, with good consistent colour. This will usually leave you with a puck ( biscuit, cookie, ) that is slightly spongy. It should not be hard, but should show some movement when you push your thumb or finger into it.
What group head temp should I aim for?
Different blends need different temps for maximum flavour profiles, but in general a 92c to 94c water temp from the group is optimal for our coffees.
What do you look for in a good barista, or someone who is wanting to train to be a top barista?
We can't actually state some of the things we prefer as a job interview question, but we certainly have personal preferences for those wanting to work in barista positions. Our personal preferences :-
Clean living, fit, and healthy individuals who can handle a bit of stress and pressure. Individuals who can think and work fast. I like to see a barista who has genuine perfectionist tendencies, yet is flexible enough to attempt new things, and stretch traditional boundaries without accepting lesser cup quality. I like to see people who have a genuine passion for quality food and coffee. I have no particular preference for guys or girls as coffee pros, as both are great when good. A basic understanding of some mechanical things helps, as does good judgement and hand-eye co-ordination. Ability to get a good 'feel' for things is important. Solid enjoyment of coffee is great too. I have trained non-coffee drinking baristas and I don't feel they take the same care as those who love drinking coffee themselves. There are always exceptions to this, but rarely that I have seen.
Can I set up an Oomph! Coffee shop in my state?
Yes. Ring Nikki, and set up a meeting. We are looking to set up shops in Vic, NSW, and QLD. You would need to fit certain criteria to make sure you are right for this type of business.
We are looking for new sites, so call now.
