Oomph! News Updates – September 2009
Hello again, Oompaloompas!

New Oomph! Coffee store
on Macquarie St
The new store is open. As with any new project, valuable lessons were learned and the results, include a fabulous new store in the office-soaked province of Macquarie Street. No longer shall the poor quality coffee deprived masses have to miss out on the necessary amount of daily OOMPH!
You will find the new store at 147 Macquarie Street. Open from 7:30am to 4:00pm Monday to Friday.
Barrack Street store
Barrack Street store has lost the lovely Ruth to the travel bug. She’s off to Morocco and other such exotic places. We won’t see her again for at least 6 months. Her very capable replacement is Cass, who is doing a great job. Candy is still rock solid on the LM Linea. She’s producing excellent coffee, along with improving her latte art skills. Well done Candy.
Oomph! Fan Page on Facebook
Natalie Tientjes is the wonderful person who started the Oomph! Facebook fan page. Thank you Natalie. The fan club is nearly 600 strong now.
Azza off to the USA
Azza (Moose) is off to the USA in November to do his testing for Q cupping certification. The Q cupping protocol is recognized as one of the most relevant and comprehensive standards for specialty coffee evaluation. It is very difficult to achieve certification, and Azz has begun that particular journey. We look forward to enjoying positive rewards from his experience overseas.
Barista Comps
The Barista Comps are coming up soon. Yes, we will have an entrant again.

Do you like to take a plunge?
Plunger coffee is a wonderful and refreshing way to enjoy your favourite brew at home. Keep the following in mind when striving for coffee excellence:
- Use a double-walled steel plunger when possible (pre-heated);
- Use water that has just finished boiling (about 30 seconds after the kettle has clicked off);
- Let the coffee stand for 4 minutes before plunging;
- Grind your beans fresh just before using. Alternatively, get our Oomph! staff to grind them for you, but make sure you keep the bag sealed and buy only in small quantities so that you constantly have fresh coffee on hand;
- Don’t put your coffee in the fridge. Just store it in a cool, dark place;
- Try using one really heaped teaspoon per cup for your plunger. If you find this too strong, or too weak, adjust the amount to a strength that suits you;
- Try drinking your coffee black, without sugar! This is a great way to really taste the coffee. You will find that you notice different tastes in the coffee as it cools. It is also a fantastic, calorie-free way to get a lift and re-energize with the great taste of Oomph! Coffee.
Choose from the range of Oomph! Coffee blends at any of our Hobart stores, or you can order online.
