What is specialty coffee?
Specialty coffee is gourmet coffee, or premium quality coffee. It is coffee that is grown in ideal conditions and has the highest flavour. It is easy to say that you have specialty coffee, but the fact is that only one percent of coffee on the market is true specialty coffee. The test, for you, is in the taste. Strong does not mean special. Cheap Robusta coffee beans, used in instant coffees and most chain coffee-shop outlets – even some that claim to serve specialty coffee – do not have the complex sugars and round flavours and distinctiveness of genuine specialty coffee.
